About the Property

Château Bettonville — a neoclassical masterpiece located on the outskirts of Verviers, in Belgium. Its monumental presence is a testimony to the grand era of industrial wealth of this area. 

The castle was commissioned by entrepreneur Clément Bettonville, in 1905, to serve as a private family home. The architect: Charles Thirion, famous for many eclectic buildings in this region like the Grand Theatre of Verviers and the city’s main Central Station.

Located atop a beautiful forested slope of the city, the castle stands as a prime example of neoclassicism. The architect drew a symmetrical façade, featuring a monumental double-gated driveway portico. The roof of this portico serves as an open air terrace.

The large portico leads into the spacious entrance hall: an exquisitely decorated gallery, with ionic columns, marble flooring, a grand mirror, large windows and refined stone masonry details. This hallway connects two staircases. There’s the main stairwell, featuring a beautiful wrought iron railing and a half-landing space with large windows. Facing South-West this space gets beautifully illuminated throughout the daytime by natural sunlight. There’s a second large wooden staircase on the North-East side. A third servant’s staircase is neatly hidden from view, giving quick access to all floors.

The ground floor features a beautiful large dining hall with a wooden floor, a marble mantelpiece for the fireplace, a giant mirror, and refined stucco details. The upper floors feature a myriad of rooms, each with parquet floors, marble mantelpieces and original wallpaper designs. Many spaces are fit for office spaces, including the very large attic.

The park of the castle has an abundance of flora and comes with a very large terrace, an annex building suitable for office spaces, and a very charming conciergerie.
